Hard winter for critters
Well it looks like Spring is finally here..and as I expected the deer and other critters had a rough winter in my neck of the woods..Two years ago it was a bad freeze that killed off the acorns and in 2009 the ice storm broke all the top branches off that the nuts grow on -so food was hard to find ..I watched thru the winter deer and turkey eat things I never seen them eat before especially the pine needles-even cedar boughs (yuuk). As suspected squirrels had a big die off..Looking around the place where I would normally see 20 in an hour I saw one..Some of the deer looked awful thin and I hope it does't effect the fawn production..Well today is the weekend of the so-called youth turkey hunt-you know -thats where the 6 and 7 year olds take a 12 gauge shot gun (that would put a 200lb man on his ass if not held right)and kill a 30 lb bird at 100 yards -at least thats what the picture in the paper says and its sanctioned by the MDC so it must be right..They know all,see all and are never wrong and they put all the critters here in Missouri..but not to worry the MDC will fix everything..Just look up your driveway they are coming to help..
