Armadillos must hibernate

Winter has finally turned the corner I hope.
My critters all seem to have come thru in good shape.Deer have no signs of being starved .Turkeys as always seem to make it thru and I am still always amazed how those big birds can sit up in those little branches all night in rain- snow -ice -and howling winds..
My pair of Gray-fox are now showing up in the daytime which usually means Momma is pregnate.
Poppa fox is about 8 years old now and one of the few people who have seen them here have asked
"how the hell can you tell if its them?  Simple I respond-they are marked. Poppa has notch in top of his right ear and Momma has a scar by her nose.Hard to see when they have their winter coats..
As usual I can not wait to see how many pups they bring up.I know since they have been hanging around I have very few problems with mice in the barns and thats great because I have some collector cars.

One critter I am not happy to see that made it thru the winter is those dam armadillos. Both of us here have had serious injurys from stepping in one of those holes that are covered by leaves so we get rid of as many as possible. In the last few days since the snow has gone off the side of the county roads we have seen 7 just walking--the most ever .

What pisses me off is the articles I have seen written by the MDC and other game departments is information about Armadillos that has to be pure "bullshit"such as.

Armadillos must eat every day because they can not store fat..
Heres another one-Armadillos can not survive temperatures below freezing for more than a few days.
Well guess what MDC and the rest of you so called experts-no one told the Armadillos that.
All I can tell you is that these Armadillos have found a way to hibernate or they would not be here.
especially after one of the snowiest and cold winters I have seen..
Last hunting season I marked a tree with a ribbon where an Armadillo had dug under.I watched that tree all winter and not once did that critter come out, How do I know? There was snow and ice on that hole for 2 months unbroken..but he finally came out a week ago.for his last
time.It seems there is nobody at the MDC with common sense.
Armadillos are here and have evolved. They do not run up here from Texas Over night--GET IT
